I look at the clock. It’s five? in the morning. It’s still dark and cool as I get out of bed. All is quiet in the house as the family continues to sleep. There’s a strange feeling in my stomach. It’s Race Day today!
A hearty breakfast and a quick walk with the dog. A final check that everything is packed. Then changing into the race uniform and off I go, paddle in hand.
The race venue is a buzz of activity. People everywhere, having breakfast, sharing goodies. I wave ‘Hi’ to friends. We cram together, exchanging jokes and snacks. We laugh and wait.
Finally, we hear our team called. Jumping to our feet, we go through warming up exercises, have a drink of water and slap on some sun block lotion. With a clap of hands and a shout ‘Go! Go! Go!’, we race down to our boat, paddle in one hand and bum pad in the other.

When I had a relapse for the fifth time, I was extremely depressed and sad. I felt unwell from the treatment but thanks to the support and encouragement of the PS team, it gave me strength to go through that difficult time.
Joining the PS team allowed me to meet fellow cancer patients and survivors, to share experiences and take part in activities like dragon boat racing and get-togethers. This has made my life more positive and enriching.
Finally, my sincere thanks to all PS team members, for your care and comfort during my illness.
